In order to achieve accurate drying in two years time, dense wood, like oak, needs to be properly stacked. At Bob's Firewood we naturally season all of our firewood in a tried-and-true fashion. Our processed oak firewood - meaning it's already been cut and split to 16" lengths - is properly stacked in 12 ft long by 4 ft high rows, with two rows leaning against each other for stability. Two foot spaces are intentionally left between each double row allowing air and sunlight to naturally cure the wood.
When stacking we ensure that each piece of wood is securely placed to prevent toppling, while at the same time making sure that pieces are not stacked too tightly so airflow is still possible.
Our Pole Wood is also naturally seasoned (dried) for two years. It is cut into 8 foot or 14 foot lengths (full logs) and left to naturally dry in the sun.
A full truck load of processed firewood consists of 5 rows, each 4' H x 7' L x 16" W. This is the most common order for processed firewood that we receive.
